About us
Sandhills Children’s Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit developmental day school that opened its doors on September 15, 1970, with Sheri Davis as our first child. At that time, parents and advocates for children witnessed the birth of early intervention programs across the state that created a system for which North Carolina has been recognized as a leader ever since.
From one child in 1970 to hundreds served by Sandhills Children’s Center today, our growth and accomplishments represent the hard work and dedication of exceptional employees, a committed Board of Directors, and a generous and responsive community. Sandhills Children’s Center continues to evolve year after year as we rise to meet the growing needs of very young children.
The geographical impact of our efforts has spread across this south-central region of North Carolina to include Moore, Richmond, Montgomery, Hoke, Scotland, and Anson counties. Through this expanded mission, children and families throughout many, many square miles have been blessed with the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Our mission is to provide services of the highest quality for children with and without special developmental needs, ages birth through five.
Infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms prepare children for kindergarten with a curriculum that provides a strong foundation. The first five years of a child’s life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation that shapes children’s future health, happiness, growth, development, and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and in life in general. Babies and young children grow, learn and develop rapidly when they receive attention, encouragement, mental stimulation, and nutritious meals.

Child and Adult Care Food Program
The CACFP combats hunger and brings healthy foods to tables across the country for children in child care centers, homes, emergency shelters, and afterschool programs as well as adults in day care through this USDA federal reimbursement program. Children learn healthy eating habits from caregivers who recognize the importance of participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program as a way to help children grow and develop to their fullest potential. Receiving nutritious meals early in life, as well as being physically active, is critical to the establishment of positive lifelong habits.
