History of Festival of Trees

The Festival has three purposes:

  1. To develop support and community appreciation of Sandhills Children’s Center through a community – wide holiday event
  2. To promote community volunteerism in support of Sandhills Children’s Center
  3. To provide revenue to support the programs at Sandhills Children’s Center

Festival of Trees began in 1997 at The Carolina Hotel opening with a Preview Party of 32 large trees on Thursday, December 4.  Ending on Sunday afternoon, “Family Day”,    Festival of Trees was a huge success exceeding their $20,000 goal and raising over $49,700.  Festival of Trees has grown to an annual display of over 100 trees and raising over $200,000 each year for Sandhills Children’s Center.  The dedication of committee members have propelled the growth of the event to include over 150 designers and over 10,000 annual patrons.   

Since its inception, the proceeds have enabled Sandhills Children’s Center to continue to provide its vital community program to children birth through five years old, with Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, hearing impairments, vision impairments and other developmental delays.

To provide services of the highest quality for children with and without special   developmental needs, ages birth through five.
